Teaching with smart boards and tablets

Dry erase boards and chalk boards are dated. In the 21st century there are smarter ways to learn. iPads, iPods, and tablets are becoming  a part of our daily life. This technology serves as an entertainment purpose but it is also becoming an aid for learning. This unique generation is considered to be digital learners, which allows them to have an open field of tools. In the coming year’s basic paper and pencil will be outdated in the digital age.  The classroom will go beyond a desk and four walls, simply because you can take an iPod and add a podcast which creates anytime learning. Learning will become visual explanations through teacher and student interaction using technology. A standard classroom with have ipads or tablets where students can participate in discussions through this technology. Smartphone’s will also be allowed in the classroom allowing a teacher to send a pop quiz through text message. Blogs can be used to post the lesson of the day so students can go back and refer to it as guidance to do homework. Teachers won’t have to worry about their students leaving books at home because the e-book and e-paper will replace the textbook. The e-book allows a student to research an article, then type up a summary, and save their work on a memory card. This reduces space and time allowing the students to get more work done. For an elementary class I would use the smart board to promote learning. Preschool students can benefit from the smart board because they are more engaged with learning. Students are better interacted and eager to learn when using the smart board because they are adapted to using technology.  Virtual manipulative can be used on a smart board; students visualize objects in which they can learn and understand through the use of a manipulative program. Technology is an effective way of leaning and serves as a major tool in the classroom.
